About us
Who We Are

My Sustainable Canada (MSC) is a national not-for-profit organization with a mandate to help people and organizations make more sustainable choices. At MSC, we believe people and organizations can use their buying power to drive social change.  We believe these shifts begin with a dialogue centred on two core questions.  How can we consume less?  How can we consume differently?

MSC contributes to this dialogue in several ways.  We engage in research and policy development on how best to educate and equip people and organizations to deal with sustainable consumption issues in the marketplace.  In collaboration with our partners, we design and deliver programs and tools with the goal of making purchasing decisions for a more sustainable world easier.

Founded in 2007, MSC is funded through government grants and fee-for-service activities.  MSC has over 425 members across Canada, including community and industry level sustainability practitioners, academics, and engaged citizens.  MSC is guided by an advisory council that provides input into the planning and development of future programs and services that meet the needs of its members.

As an organization, MSC’s impact has been profiled and recognized in the following ways:

  • Recipient of the 2011 Sustainable Tourism Award for Designing and Implementing the Ontario Snow Resorts Association’s Engine Idling Reduction Program
  • Nominated for the 2011 Ontario Hospital Association’s Overall Leadership Award
  • Distinguished as “Ontario’s Local Food Champions’ (2012) by the Broader Public Sector Investment Fund
  • Selected to present at 2012 TEDx Bled (Slovenia)
  • One of five organizations to be awarded a social innovation grant by the Ontario Centres of Excellence (2012)
